As a class, we have brainstormed different ways of desk arrangements that would allow accessible room and the ability to collaborate with other students. However, we have found that our brainstorm ideas are limited to only three arrangements and we are still left with little room for movement.
My goal is to provide a classroom that allows for flexible seating. By providing students with a variety of options when it comes to their learning environment, they will become more self-aware of their learning needs while being engaged in their learning. I currently provide four bean bag chairs and six gaming chairs that I have purchased with my own money. I would love to be able to provide more of these options, as well as lap desks and clipboards.
As we work towards achieving this goal, eventually I would like to provide my students with tables and/or new desks that allow for critical-thinking and collaboration through hands-on, creative, educationally enriched lessons and activities, while still keeping students organized and responsible. A comfortable learning environment will lead to more student engagement, which means more success!
