The physical set up of the classroom plays a key role in the children's learning. It is the first thing the children and families see when they walk in the door. Currently our classroom has wooden chairs, that are of varying sizes and are difficult to keep sanitary. Providing more comfortable seating for the children will help them stay seated at meal times, and will be easier to keep clean, Thus cutting down in the spread of germs in the classroom. I chose the chairs from Kaplan, because they are of a durable material that will be easy to keep clean. The arrangement of the chairs in the classroom environment is important for creating a space that feels welcoming to the children. It will invite them to sit, learn and socialize with their peers. If the children are comfortable they will be able to sit and focus on learning for a longer period, vs. trying to remain in a chair that is not at the same height as the friend next to them, and wobbles on the floor.
