These seating options that sit differently than a standard desk chair will provide my students with an alternative seating option. In our flexible seating environment, my students will be able to choose the space where they can best learn and focus. They appreciate this choice and feel empowered to give their best.
Flexible seating has given my students a new outlook to what a classroom learning environment can be. In this project I have picked supplies for students to be able to sit where they are comfortable. For example, the chairs that sit low on the floor will be paired with the lap desks for my students who work better on the carpet. The wobble chairs will work for my students who prefer a standard desk while still giving them a movable, adaptable seat- this will be especially helpful to my students who need to get their wiggles out during class. Another item that is part of this project elastic bands that will go under the chairs, allowing them to wiggle and kick their feet throughout the day without distracting their peers. Finally, I have placed inflatable cushions that can be used on either chairs or the ground to help students stay calm and focused while sitting and working. These cushions also have the same benefits of sitting on a balance ball, students will be activating the stomach muscles while sitting; leading to better posture and less back strain from prolonged sitting.
I see a dramatic improvement in behavior and attention when I give them options and look forward to expanding their seating options with your generosity on this project.
