The students will be using the CD players during Daily 5 time to listen to reading. During this time the teacher is focusing on working with small reading groups to set individual and group goals to help students work on reading skills at their level. With the extra attention on the small groups, students are gaining more productive instruction in order to progress in reading. With audio books, students are able to read above their reading levels independently and learn new words. The use of the CD players will allow students to listen to reading independently as well as listening to appropriate fluency during reading. Audio books develop listening skills and quiet concentration. The narrator may also read with correct intonation, enunciation and emphasis to bring out meaning of a text. Particularly, for students that are English Language Learners, they will benefit from hearing the clear pronunciation and native speech patterns.
