Many of my students are in special education for social/emotional deficits due to various disabilities. Kids benefit when we create environments that encourage interaction and imagination. To develop and grow, kids need to practice these skills with first-hand experience with turn-taking, self-regulation and teamwork. Having the right toys can make a big difference in student engagement with peers. Kids with different abilities can join in the fun when the classroom has toys/activities that encourage engagement. Whether they are watching or peers are sharing the toys with them. Playing is Learning!
