With these acclaimed children's books that amplify diverse stories, my students will see themselves reflected in our classroom library. They will also be challenged to consider experiences and perspectives unfamiliar to them. At 2nd grade, my students are just the right age where this curiosity about the larger world is developing rapidly. I can think of no better way to encourage this than to give my students access to a multitude of stories through books. I know each of these vibrant stories has the potential to be that "home-run" book that will suck an ambivalent reader in my class into the immersive world of literature. It is my dream for all students in my class to find those books that they just can't put down, and meet those characters that feel like personal friends. I know a good book, like nothing else, can transform a child into a reader for whom nothing is impossible!
