I teach in an alternative school setting. The students who come to me, many of whom face obstacles ranging from poverty to teen pregnancy to long-term academic failure to chronic delinquency, strive to find a since of accomplishment in something. Students who have been labeled failures, troublemakers, or dropouts in traditional schools can thrive in smaller, more individualized settings and I make sure that in my classroom they feel as equal and as part as possible. This can be a bit challenging when I do not have the resources needed to teach the way needed.
