In my math classroom students are asked to take risks and try new techniques while learning new thinking strategies. One way students enjoy and engage in math is showing their work, and by giving the students the opportunity to show their work on whiteboards helps engage students in different ways and increase engagement. Using dry erase markers helps students make their learning and thinking visible while also allowing for editing. Using dry erase markers encourages students to make mistakes in a non-committing way to play with new ideas and explore new strategies to push their growth and experimentation with their new learning.
