My students are precious, curious and eager to learn. The students in our special needs classroom range from Kindergarten to 3rd grade. Students in this classroom have a range of disabilities with varying levels of severity. These students live in a high poverty area and come to school with so many needs. But despite all of the hardships they face outside of school, they come each day with a smile on their faces, and a genuine passion to learn. They work hard even though each and every one of them are faced with difficult challenges. They love all of the same things other kids love- Spongebob, Hannah Montana, Skippyjon Jones, Splat the Cat, etc. My students are already starting to realize that they are different because they are in a special education classroom. They deserve to know that while they perhaps learn in a different way than others, they still have things in common with others. But most importantly, they deserve the same treatment and opportunities as every other student.
