This school year, my school district offered a "Ukuleles in the Classroom" course, where I had the opportunity to learn how to play and teach the ukulele to my students. By playing the ukulele, the students will see themselves as musicians and build their confidence and self-esteem. Through practicing playing the ukulele and singing, the students will practice recognizing patterns in music and they will practice recognizing rhyming words in songs. The students will be able to play many primary grade songs by learning just 3 chords. Students will be playing in a small group of 6 so they will need to listen and work together so that they can play a song as a band. Playing music together will also help them problem solve to figure out what strumming pattern works best with a particular song.
