I am a fourth grade teacher at a Title 1 school that has various demographic situations that physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially affect each individual student. However, rather than view this as an excuse, myself and the staff at Endeavor Elementary embrace the difficulties and diversities of each individual student through the 365 days a year when each lesson is taught and every hug given. As students enter the door for the first day of school, their backpacks may be empty or they may not have had breakfast prepared for them at home. That is when the crucial importance of community arises within the school--within the classroom. This community allows for students to be responsible, be respectful, be safe, and be kind. Most importantly, it allows for the students to love and be loved.
