Students in my classroom are on many different levels when it comes to academics. Many of these students are behind grade level. A way to help close the gap is by working with students in small groups. Students have access to iPads to work with and have many different apps that are individualized for each student. While I am working with a small group during guided reading, other students will be on the iPads either working on their English Language Arts skills or sharpening their math skills. Students need headphones to focus on their differentiated learning app. Although you might think headphones can be purchased by the students, many of them cannot afford quality headphones. Having technology in the classroom is very helpful for students with disabilities and English Language Learners. Many of these students need directions or full texts read a loud to them. It is distracting to other students if they are hearing multiple iPads going off throughout guided reading or math centers.
