I teach 6th grade reading at a school that is under heavy renovation. Our school library has been cut in half and most of the books in my personal classroom library have been wonderful donations but are extremely outdated.
The love of reading is strong entering 6th grade and my goal as their teacher is to teach them that reading has the power to arm you with tools to shape opinions for yourself. I also want to help them continue to cultivate that love for reading so that they become life-long readers.
My students have time to read a text of their choosing every time they enter my classroom. New additions to our classroom library will provide students with ample opportunity to read more throughout our year together and to explore new text that they possibly haven't even thought about reading before. This project includes a variety of genres and reading levels that can reach a large range of readers in all of my classes. All items selected for this project were requested by my students in our beginning of the year reading survey that they took for my class and I hope to be able to provide all of them with the opportunity to read their selected texts.
