Each year, more and more students join the orchestra and other music classes, but our supply budget cannot keep up with the demand for instruments. Students have to share instruments, so they cannot take them home to practice and improve at the same pace as the students who do not have to share instruments. New instruments attract additional students, which allows the quality of the music program to grow, and it also provides a service to the community in the form of performances. We need a new string bass. Our students often help coach and tutor lower grade level orchestra students in our school district. Students also get college approved art credit for orchestra, which is required on all the California UC and CSU colleges and university applications.
