My ESOL classroom is full of inspirational stories that bring joy to my life. I teach underpriviliged, courageous teens, whose first language is mainly Spanish. They have come facing adversity and have decided to move on despite their violent, threatening legacy. Despite of the serious emotional repercussions, they have decided to give themselves the opportunity to reach their educational goals and move forward, so they have become engaged readers. But, they need to continue their literacy training and become independent readers to obtain systematic input of text to improve their overall English Language muliliteracy level and succeed in the mainstream content classroom. I am asking for sets of books (20) to get them college and career-ready by the end of the year. I have created a formal Independent Reading (IR) program that specifically meets their needs as SL readers and writers. I need your help.
