Just like a microcosm of our town, my students are made up of a beautiful mix of students. My classes are filled with students who come from wealthy families sitting next to students who live in foster homes and all those in between. In my classes, it doesn't matter where you come from or who you know, it is all about the love of art and that there is something everyone can find in them that is artistic. Those students who never thought of themselves as artistic are finding it difficult to decide which project they liked best, because I try to give them all kinds of different artistic experiences--re-enforcing the idea that art doesn't mean they have to draw something that looks like a photograph; art is what they create from how they respond to their subject. To put it simply, it is a willingness to try to make something new.
