We are starting an Archery Club after the new year that will provide students with basic instruction in bow safety, proper archery technique, and will allow them opportunities to engage in a sport that relies on individual skill rather than a team structure. Archery provides students who struggle with Attention Deficit Disorders the opportunity to learn focus and concentration, which translates into more productive classroom learning.
Precision, attention to detail, and the ability to center themselves are the skills we are trying to build within our students.
We currently have enough equipment to serve 12 people in each session. The sessions will be held three time per week for 30 minutes. We would like to encourage more student participation but we need more equipment. We are in need of bows, arrows, and targets. By increasing the number of bows, arrows, and targets, we will be able to serve up to 18 students per month with the new equipment.
We hope that learning archery skills will translate into better classroom performance and possibly introduce them to a sport they continue for a lifetime.
