I teach a group of unique and amazing kindergarten students with Learning Handicaps. They have disabilities like Autism, Mental Retardation, ADHD, Visual and Hearing Impairments, and Speech and Language Impairment. In addition many of them have sensori-motor issues that make focusing on classwork almost impossible. The majority of my "kids" have poor fine and gross motor skills that make writing difficult and accessing the playground equipment a huge undertaking. But they work very hard in school. They want nothing more than to learn to read, write, and count. I work diligently to provide direct, explicit instruction so that they can access the general education curriculum to the best of their ability. I try to provide exciting and interesting lessons along with sensorimotor activities that help their bodies as well as their minds.
