Our school recently went 1 to 1 with technology, and all students have Chromebooks to use in their classrooms. Students are growing up in a world filled with technology, and many of the apps and projects they do in class now require headphones. I teach special education, and most of my students struggle with reading fluency and reading comprehension. As a result, it benefits them greatly to be able to listen to passages, assignments, videos, and tests being read aloud. My students would use these headphones almost on a daily basis for a variety of reasons. “Fair doesn’t mean giving every child the same thing, it means giving every child what they need." - Rick Lavoie. Headphones would be beneficial for any student, but specifically for struggling learners and readers. Each student works at their own pace, and with headphones they would be able to watch their own videos or listen to their own passages independently.
