HCA is a place that changes how kids view themselves and their learning. On the last day of school his first year, a student stood up in front of the whole school and bravely said, "I used to think school was a prison. Now, I see that school is freedom." This student had been made to feel inadequate at previous schools because he struggled to learn from lectures. Given the opportunity to learn through hands-on projects at HCA, he is now a top science student and mentor to many of his peers. The reasons students attend HCA are as diverse as the students themselves. They may choose HCA for the project-based approach to learning or for the small, supportive community that emphasizes personal growth as much as academic success. Other students may choose HCA for the opportunities of self-paced, individualized curriculum, which cultivates independence and creativity. This approach requires tools and resources to be successful, and that's where you come in!
