Kids these days are naturally drawn to technology. As an educator I like a balanced "diet" of pencil and paper activities as well as technologies to satisfy their hunger for learning and doing. The Osmo sets will be used for independent working time. Students will connect reading and math skills with the learning games and tiles. It is magical, the way the tiles interact with the iPad, giving children a fun experience building words and solving math problems. The different games build various skills. With WORDS, they will use critical thinking skills as they build their vocabulary, and use what they know about letters and sounds to solve puzzles by making words. NUMBERS challenges students to combine numbers, beginning with recognition, and working all the way up to multiplication. TANGRAMS helps with spatial reasoning and provokes multi-step processing. Because all of these are presented in game format, kids enjoy practicing all of these skills. I can not wait to give my class this STEM experience!
