My school is an inner city Title I school. We are part of the Atlanta Public School System in Atlanta, Georgia. We have a student population of 260 serving grades K-5. Our population is 99% African-American and 1% other; the majority of our students come from single-parent homes. 95% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The students are neighborhood children with very little parental support. Most of these children do not know how to use any other technology other than what we have here at school. Research has shown that students who are engaged in their learning through active participation and opportunities to work collaboratively with their peers tend to be more motivated to learn (Bandura,1977; Vygotsky, 1978). Collaborative Classroom research "indicates [that] successful learning also involves an interaction of the learner, the materials, the teacher, and the context" (NCREL, Tinzmann, Jones, Fennimore, Bakker, Fine, and Pierce, 1990).
