My precious students are special needs children in grades 3-5. They have varying exceptionalities including Cerebral Palsy, autism, intellectual disability, language impairment and learning disabilities. My students do not learn optimally through traditional methods. They require hands-on multi-sensory materials. They also require many many repetitions of content to achieve mastery. In addition to their learning challenges many of them face socioeconomic challenges as well. The vast majority of students in our school are on free or reduced lunch. Many of them are second language learners. Imagine how challenging it must be for a child to have a disability and to also learn to speak English at the same time! Many of their parents try their best but are unable to help their kids with their school work due to their own challenges and issues.
