The items my students need include a large ABC rug with over 26 spots for the children to pick a square to sit in. We sit on the reading rug several times a day for book reading, sight word practice, phonemic awareness practice, and even show and tell! It is important for the students to feel like their classroom "library" is comfortable and safe to learn a variety of new reading skills. The separated ABC squares gives the students their own space to sit; creating healthy personal space boundaries. My students love to take a break from classroom work and use our library area. It will be that much more amazing when we have a colorful, comfortable rug to go to!
