My music classroom is a place where my low income students can freely express themselves and learn life long lessons through music and play. Five hundred fifty K-3 students sit on designated Sitspots in my classroom so that it is a near immediate transition from learning at the board to learning though play and music games. As a Kodály method inspired classroom and district, it is of great importance for my students to have plenty of space to play their music games. Zoltán Kodály once said, “The organic connection between music and physical movement is expressed in singing games. These have been one of the principal joys of childhood from time immemorial.” By the time my students reach 4th and 5th grade, extended sitting on my classroom floor becomes uncomfortable and distracting in a fast paced and active classroom like mine. These lightweight stools can be used to provide comfort for them and promote proper singing posture during rehearsals, and they can easily moved to provide room for singing games.
