Although students will possibly phase back into face to face learning we will continue to personal distance and have cohorts of students still distance learning. This makes student led collaboration, exploration and discovery difficult with basic platforms. My goal is to provide engaging lessons where ALL students can contribute to discussions and activities both face to face and virtually. Nearpod will help me accomplish this both during a pandemic and after. I have been using the free version of Nearpod, an interactive slideshow that promotes collaboration and interaction through exploration(virtual field trips and video) and interactive activities. Nearpod’s interactive activities and dynamic media is multi-sensory learning. Students can watch a video or read text. They can respond to a question in a way that plays off their strength – drawing, writing or adding an image via Google Safe Search. Gamification, simulations, 3D images and virtual reality are built into the lesson. I have reached the storage limit for lessons and activities in the free version of Nearpod. The best part of Nearpod is my students will be able to build a complex understanding through rigorous lessons that provide student led problem solving, discourse, exploration, and discovery both virtually and face to face. My students have been successful in navigating Nearpod. This platform is easy to use. Nearpod’s free subscription has a small, limited storage allowance. I have easily used this free storage in the first month of school. A continuous subscription with a Gold membership to Nearpod will allow my students to continue to interact and collaborate with interactive lessons and activities.
