My school is a Title I school, and our students need help closing some of the gaps in their learning. My Reading Intervention class is specifically for this. My students need some of the basic reading fundamentals in order to bring their reading skills up to grade level. They are the "bubble" kids that can improve their test scores dramatically with some additional reading foundation practice each day. We will be focusing on 1) Reading Strategies, 2) Reading Comprehension, 3) Vocabulary Acquisition, and 4) Test-Taking Strategies in this class all next year. Students who struggle to read must be taught the research-based reading strategies as a core foundation and be given time to practice those strategies over and over again until they become second nature. I want my students to be successful readers, and this wish list of literacy items are just one component of my plan for next year.
