I teach a diverse group of third-grade students who are working hard to become stronger, more confident readers. My classroom includes students with a wide range of reading abilities, from those who need extra support with phonics, fluency, and comprehension to students who are ready for more challenging texts. In third grade, students begin making the important shift from learning to read to reading to learn. We work daily on comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, phonics, and written responses. Through whole-group lessons, small-group instruction, literacy centers, and independent reading, I strive to meet every student where they are and help them grow into successful, independent readers.
