As a teacher of an amazing group of intellectually disabled children, I face very special challenges that may not happen in a traditional classroom. My students range from 7th to 12th graders, and we have been fortunate enough to have area musicians willing to donate their time to help these kids to have an opportunity to play. There is currently NO program in place to incorporate music into their curriculum. We have seen an incredible response from the classroom whenever we can incorporate music into their day! Currently we schedule one afternoon a week where the students can gather and have an opportunity to sing, play, and even dance along to the music being performed by a local musician. We've seen SO MUCH potential in these sessions that we want to launch a pilot program to expand on their interest! Please consider helping out however you can.
