Even on native land, young native adults are often exposed to literature that stereotypes or tells a false narrative about their and others' existence. Pre-teens struggling with embracing their identity can benefit from literature which shows the beauty and power of protagonists from all backgrounds, including minority, native and queer identities. I want a classroom that is anti-racist, anti-oppression, empowering, and works together, "In Lak'ech". In order to realize this, I need to hold myself to a standard as a teacher to have literature that is accessible in the classroom that upholds these goals. Please help me make this goal a reality!
