My high school classroom is very unique. It is designed for our high school students who have the most significant academic needs. Our main focus is working on their daily living, social, and entry level job skills. Our hope is to arm them with the necessary skills needed to be independent adults once they graduate or move on from our school district. Our classroom is located in the old Home Ec. room so we have four kitchenettes where we practice basic cooking and baking weekly. This is why we need four sets of everything - the students are paired up in the kitchens and each kitchen needs its own set of tools & utensils. The materials we are using now have been in this classroom for literally decades and have become so worn that they are difficult to work with for ANYONE, let alone students with special needs. Our classroom also runs as a "catering business" and every month, we cook or bake an item to be sold to our community (Ex: Chicken Pot Pies and Cinnamon Rolls). By donating to our project, you will help my students learn how to be independent in the kitchen and feed not only themselves, but others as well. Our catering business is the perfect opportunity for them to work on life, social, and job skills while they interact with their community. With the money that they make, they are able to take a mini "vacation" to celebrate all of their hard work throughout the school year.
