I have a new classroom this year and I am a first year teacher. I work in a self-contained classroom with 6 very different and very amazing students. They are wanting to read books that they see their peers reading and be treated just like their non-disabled peers. They have asked if we can read "The BFG" as a class and then watch the movie. Our library has books like this, but they do not have class sets of books that are on a level for my students to understand. With the right manipulatives and help, my students can accomplish anything. When I give them new math problems, their first reaction is to get nervous and not want to do it. When I can pull out math manipulatives, I can see them take a breath of fresh air. These items will be great for my students and give them options of books we can read in class together that they would enjoy. My students get so excited when they come into the classroom and see a new book, a math manipulative, or even something to decorate our classroom. They are such amazing children I want to do everything I can to help them succeed in school. Thank you for your help.
