How many boring, difficult books did you read in middle school? Now imagine doing that at home or over Zoom in a language that you're still working to master. We are fortunate that our county has provided all students and teachers with Chromebooks and Wi-Fi hotspots. However, our learning software has limited readings, which are often too difficult for some of our students - or they're just not interesting! I am requesting a one-year subscription to Reading A-Z, a digital platform that provides short but interesting books and stories. The best part about this site is that it provides the same texts at different levels. Even in my class of just five students, some students read at a higher level than others. Reading A-Z will allow me to assign adjusted versions of the same story to different students. Reading A-Z uses a research-backed algorithm that revises texts to correspond to different levels of difficulty. It's so flexible that I have even used a Reading A-Z text to develop an entire unit for my first-year college writing students! Many of my students have been affected by COVID-19 and would be thrilled to have more engaging readings to keep their minds off of the world. I hope you will help provide my students with these awesome reading materials. Thank you in advance for your support!
