Preschool provides a safe but sometimes challenging classroom environment. Children learn through play and preschool is a lot about developing social-emotional skills along with getting them ready for kindergarten. These social-emotional skills including learning how to share and take turns, showing empathy for classmates and self-regulating their own strong emotions. Without skills like these, children may have a hard time going on to academic achievement in later years. In order to help with this, it is important there is proper toys, materials, manipulatives, etc. available. The doll house may help spark real life scenarios. The cups will help not only with academic achievement (such as sorting, colors, etc.) but also work on taking turns when there is not enough available. The couch will help make the reading center more inviting and provide the children an opportunity to read and look at books. The string and beads will help with not only their fine motor skills, but help with sharing and cooperation. The cash register will help with many skills including numbers and taking turns.
