My students are an amazing group of middle schoolers. At HSMS we are proud of our program that benefits a wide range of children with special needs. They each struggle to cope with a disability of some kind; it may be a mild learning disability to severe autism. They are 12 to 14 years old and range in ethnicities as well as socioeconomic levels. The most wonderful aspect of the environment at HSMS is how welcoming our campus is to our Special Education students. We are truly a family and all are welcome. I am proud to say I work at HSMS. The staff and students make sure that the SPED students are included in all aspects of school culture. From assisting with our highly competitive wrestling team to playing on the basketball team to dancing in front of the school at a school rally. No matter their challenge the whole school environment is able to see past it and accept the person they truly are.
