My students are part of a positive school community of preschool through six grade students with exceptional and caring staff members. I teach a Special Day Class of Preschool and Kindergarten students in Southern California. Although these students have been diagnosed with multiple disabilities, their desire to learn is inspiring. Providing opportunities for them to explore their world through their senses challenges me to provide them opportunities to be creative and use their imaginations. I use music as a teaching tool, and my students love it. I have students in my classroom that have mobility issues, or may have vision or hearing impairment, but music finds a way to reach everyone of them. Whether we are dancing to music from Ralph's World or making up songs and chants to help us learn, my students discover ways to move beyond their disabilities and take away from each activity a unique personal experience.
