Part of what makes our school a special place is that we value questions and use student interests to drive the learning. In my class students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning. Often this means that although students are working on the same skill the work may look different. For example, when working on informational texts all students are learning about the elements required to create a clear and interesting text but all have a different topic. Or, during reading workshop, some students are busy researching a favorite author for their written review of a book while others are listening to an audio book to access a higher level texts, but all students are developing their comprehension skills. These Chromebooks will be used to allow more students to use technology to access tools that will help grow their independence as learners as well as help them take ownership of their academic progress. Giving students choice in the topics they want to investigate and the tools to help them reach their academic goals creates a classroom that is more engaged and students who feel empowered and more connected to their learning. These Chromebooks will offer more than the technology required to access information they will show students that we trust and believe in them as learners.
