My class is made up of a diverse group of students from multiple grade levels and with varying disability classifications and intensities, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and family support systems. They require multiple accommodations and/or modifications to their academic learning including small-group and one-on-one instruction, as well as technological supports, such as speech-to-text and screen reader programs to be successful in both general education and special education classrooms. In addition to their academic goals, my students are working to develop appropriate and effective behavioral and social skills. With little intrinsic motivation or sense of self-esteem in regard to their success at school, my students need a lot of extra encouragement and engagement techniques to keep them on task with and excited about learning. Above all, students respond very well to utilizing technological devices in the classroom.
