These books will make a difference in my students' learning by allowing them to access several different genres. With the 40 book challenge, students are encouraged to choose different genres and books throughout the year to open up their minds and read a book they may not have otherwise. The challenge is meant to expand students' reading lives and is a personal challenge for each student. The assortment of books will allow my students to access a larger variety within my classroom. Although we do access our school library, most of the time there is a waiting list for some of the most popular books. I want to see my students stretch themselves as readers and increase their confidence, competence, and become motivated readers. Together in our classroom, we are creating our own reading community.
