Adding more books to my classroom library will allow students the opportunity to read content that interest them. In my class, students explore biographies and autobiographies for a PBL Wax Museum Unit. Having the collection of biographies/autobiographies will allow my students to find a high interest book in the classroom instead of muddling around in the media center only to come back with nothing.
Having a variety of materials to add to my classroom library will increase student interest and motivation as it relates to literacy. Working with struggling readers is no easy task. Therefore, it is important to find materials that pique student interest. By having books at the students fingertips, students are able to easily access materials to improve their reading skills. These high interest fiction and nonfiction books will do just that! The reading canoes will be used as an added incentive to read in our classroom library. The purpose of having these items is to promote literacy by providing a comfortable, relaxing environment for students to read with a pal.
