Help! I'm a first year teacher and have no technology in my classroom. All my students are English Language Learners. The school purchased many online programs for students, such as MyOn, Raz-Kids, and Mathletics. However, many of my students have no access to a tablet or computer at home. Sometimes they have a computer or tablet, but parents are unable to pay for internet service.
Having iPads in the classroom mean my students will be able to use technology in many different ways.
One third of my students are new to our school system and are academically disadvantaged compared to their peers. They require prerequisite skills in all subjects and with the fast paced curriculum they are not getting what they need to succeed. Having Ipads in the classroom will guarantee students access to instructional materials at their level.
The iPads will become a tool to help them with the acquisition of English. iPads can strengthen language skills to ensure success but can also strengthen their math skills. Raz-Kids and MyOn are reading programs that can be personalized to the reading level of each individual student so learning is differentiated. The books chosen by students are read to them aloud by the program so it strengthens listening skills. In addition, iPads have build in features that can be used to support my English Language Learners. Some examples of these features are spoken text, dictation, Safari reader and communication tools.
