Many of my students are ESL and many did not attend preschool prior to Kindergarten. We are a Title 1 school. Many of my students do not have much experience with letters and letter sounds prior to my classroom. Many have never been in social situations with peers. My students enjoy every aspect of school. They thrive with the daily routine and enjoy learning and knowing the classroom procedures. We have lots of Center time, which allows me to teach Math and Reading with small groups of students. The Centers provide hands-on learning. The students enjoy learning through song and movement. We are all friends in our classroom and use problem solving so we can remain having a nurturing environment and feel supported by each other. It is important in Kindergarten to feel loved by their friends, we accomplish this by having fun as we learn.
