The diverse texts will help my students see themselves in these books and will help to validate their backgrounds and life stories. They can began to see characters that look like them and that they can identify with! This is so important and allows my students to realize that they matter! Students who see characters that look like them are more likely to be engaged, be inspired and understood. Similarly, this will allow my students to deepen their appreciation for others backgrounds and life stories. With understanding, comes empathy and appreciation for more than just ourselves.
