I serve students from diverse backgrounds at a Title 1 school in Oakland, California. Many of my students have little to no exposure to literature at home and there are no libraries within walking distance. This year we also lost our school librarian due to funding. The needs of my students are varied as many of them are learning English as a second language. This makes it difficult to provide text that is at their individual levels but still high interest and grade level specific. My students are excited about reading and learning. They are eager to dive into a good book and expand their knowledge and imaginations.
