My students all have IEP's for various reasons. I work with a variety of age ranges, preschool through 6th grade. They are eager to learn new things however their learning styles are different from one another and may change daily depending on home situations, whether or not they have had enough to eat or enough sleep the night before. Our school is in a poor neighborhood within a large metropolitan city. We have many students that move into and out of our school area due to job loss, loss of home or family members. Some students are homeless and are bussed to our school from a distance away which takes away family time as well as time to complete school work. Many students do not have adequate role models that can help them with fine motor tasks such as writing the alphabet or numbers, completing homework or finishing a project that includes cutting and coloring. With all the difficulties these children face daily, many of them come to school with a smile on their face eager to learn.
