Our school was renovated a few years ago, which was really nice. However, they turned the theater into a cafegymatorium. Which means that our performance area is an MPR with a carpeted stage and no curtains. So my students have no backstage area for prop tables, entrances, exits, set pieces, etc. Right now we are using butcher paper and table cloths from the dollar store to hide backstage from the audience. A portable curtain system will give my students the flexibility to be creative in a wide range of venues. We can use it for a traditional stage curtain, as part of a unit set, in a classroom for a "black box" theater, or even out on campus as guerrilla theater. It will really add a level of legitimacy to their work that will raise their confidence.
