I have developed a reading program with my 8th-grade language arts students where they read to 2nd grade special needs students in another building in our district. We will be using the iPad Pro to connect using Facetime with our reading buddies. One of the uses for the iPad Pro is the Duet display app, where we can connect two groups of students at the same time through Facetime. The 2nd-grade students look forward to their 8th-grade reading buddies every week. Not only do the 8th graders read the story, they get to play a game with the 2nd graders. At the end of the book, the 2nd graders roll a die and based on the number are asked to recall a part of the story. The reading buddies program has been beneficial for my students, by increasing their fluency and developing leadership skills. The program has also been beneficial for the 2nd graders as they are able to interact with the big kids and enjoy some story time.
