We have such an amazing diverse population of students unique to our communities and culture. As a student from this population myself, teach in the same school to which I graduated from. As a product of the community, we know the circumstances to which our students face. The amazing thing is, instead of chastising and pushing away these experiences, our students harness it and make it part of a positive formation of an identity to keep pushing forward. We see a lot of first generation graduates, a lot of leaders, a lot of hard working individuals eager to go make a difference. With the same, we see a lot of substance abuse, violence, broken homes, missing families or absent parents, refugees or immigrants, and various other aspects of a low socio economic community. But this does not stop them. They need love, they need a positive adult role models, and they need someone to say they are worth it - AND THEY ARE!
