To differentiate for my students I provide multiple resources for them to access the material in a way that works best for them. One of these ways is through audiovisual material. My students need headphones so that they can listen to the material on their computers. They also need personal CD players and splitters so they can listen to audiobooks on CD with partners. Listening to text helps students build speaking skills, likewise reading helps them builds writing skills. When students have an opportunity to listen and read they are improving all four literacy skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Some of my students use audiobooks to follow along in the text. This allows them to see the word spelled correctly and listen to how it is pronounced. When students listen to texts that are at or above their reading levels they are being exposed to new vocabulary that they can start to incorporate in their speaking and writing.
