The students I serve are from grades K-5 who are currently eligible for special education and related services and have been placed in a self-contained Behavioral Disabilities classroom. These individuals come from an urban area with most families in the low socio-economic status. I believe these students are not bad students, but they make bad decisions. They require coping skills and decision-making skills. The majority of the students are diagnosed with conduct disorder, oppositional defiant behavior, disruptive behavior, ADHD, etc. These students come from an underprivileged community that suffers from crime, violence, drugs, high drop out rate, and poverty. I consider my students "misunderstood." These are students who families struggle to address challenging behaviors.
